Every Cub Scout Pack is comprised of Dens. Dens are groups based on school grade. There are six types of Dens: Lions (Kindergarten), Tigers (1st Grade), Wolves (2nd Grade), Bears (3rd Grade), Webelos (4th Grade), and Arrow of Light (5th Grade). All the Dens together form the Pack. The Pack may have multiple Dens for a grade if there are a large number of Scouts in a particular grade. Scouts will work on rank requirements throughout the year and will earn the rank around the end of the school year (i.e. a kindergartener will earn the Lion rank towards the end of that year). Scouts can join at any point between during their Kindergarten through 5th grade years.
Youngest Scouts start their adventure with simple activities focused on fun and exploration with their adult partners.
Tigers begin learning independence while working alongside their adult partners on engaging outdoor and hands-on experiences.
Wolves grow their skills and confidence with exciting activities that promote teamwork and leadership.
Bears tackle more advanced skills like first aid, outdoor adventures, and problem-solving challenges.
Webelos stands for "We'll Be Loyal Scouts." Scouts start developing independence, learning advanced skills like camping, leadership, and teamwork. They earn the Webelos badge as they complete requirements.
Older Cubs take on leadership roles, preparing for the transition into a Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) troop with more advanced outdoor and survival skills. Scouts will visit troops to get a glimpse of what's next during this year.
